International ingenuity in The Lantern this May: Staff picks

With summer just around the corner (and festival season not too far away either), we thought we’d celebrate by sharing some staff recommendations for unmissable gigs coming up in The Lantern this May.

Our wonderful programmers have searched far and wide to bring the best music from around the world to The Lantern. This month, you can hear exotic psychedelia from Bahrain and beyond, hypnotic loop-laced Estonian fiddle songs, New Orleans-inspired brass from East London, powerful Icelandic rock, Brooklyn-born dream pop, vibrant intercontinental Afro-fusion, stomping fiery folk from Wales and much more.

Our first pick is coming up really soon as Hackney Colliery Band return to the Lantern this Friday (5 May). We also recommend:

12 May – Flamingods

16 May – Calan

18 May – Bella Union 20th Anniversary Tour Ft. Mammut, Pavo Pavo & Will Stratton

20 May – Maarja Nuut

26 May – Osibisa Tribal Reunion

To get ready for this bumper run of brilliant gigs, we’ve updated our evolving Lantern playlist with some choice tunes from these upcoming artists, so you can immerse yourself in The Lantern’s sounds.
