Launch Event

Cafe & Bar, Watershed
21:00 – 22:30
Wed 6 Mar 2019

To launch the whole Filmic19 season, join us for an excursion into the field of film scoring inspired by Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke. DJ Cheeba will be digging through the band’s extended musical back catalogue on Wed 6 Mar at Watershed to present a Radiohead inspired AV show.

OK Composer: The Scores of Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke

Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke have earned critical acclaim both on stage and in film scoring. To celebrate their innovative work, orchestral duo Neil Leiter and Margaret Hermant, aka Echo Collective, will be recreating Radiohead’s iconic album Amnesiac in our foyer on Sun 21 Apr.

Over at Watershed, the pair’s film soundtrack work will be celebrated with a season of screenings including director Lynne Ramsay’s ‘We Need To Talk About Kevin’ and P. T. Anderson’s Oscar® nominated ‘Phantom Thread’.

Jocelyn Pook

Renowned composer Jocelyn Pook has established herself as one of the world’s leading composers for film and the stage. Her performance at St George’s Bristol on Sat 16 Mar, bringing together a nine-strong ensemble of musicians and singers, will feature music from Stanley Kubrick’s final film ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ and Golden Globe winner ‘The Wife’.

Ahead of the concert you can catch a screening of The Wife at Watershed with introduction from the composer herself.

The Early Scores of John Williams

Watershed will be screening a series of films celebrating the legendary film composer John Williams, while his early work will be revisited with the special live screening with orchestra of Stephen Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra Terrestrial: In Concert, at Bristol Hippodrome on Wednesday 24 April presented by Colston Hall.

Exploring the mesmerising transcendent qualities of minimalism St George’s Bristol plays host to special performances by experimental pianist Hauschka on Thu 11 Apr and the legendary founder of the style Terry Riley on Sat 13 Apr.

Ahead of the concert discover more about this influential genre as Charles Hazlewood seeks out four great American minimalist composers who rebooted classical music in the 20th century in the BBC Documentary ‘Tones, Drones and Arpeggios‘ screening at Watershed Sat 13 Apr.

Sound and Vision: specially commissioned AV shows

As part of Filmic19, Watershed has commissioned Bristol’s pioneering audio/visual performers DJ Cheeba and DJ Food to create three unique live audio-visual performances which will explore the creative connections between film and music, culminating in Kraftwerk: Klassics, Kovers & Kurios, a collaboration with Colston Hall and the Cube cinema.
