About the ensembles
String Sparks
This group is suitable for children who have been playing for as little as a term, if they have learnt to use their 1st and 2nd fingers.
The music is designed so that there is always an open string with first finger part but the more experienced children can be playing parts that are approaching grade 1 level.
There is no audition and we have tutors on hand to help and encourage the less confident players.
String Group
This group follows on from Starter Strings and is suitable for children who have started using a ‘low 2nd finger’ on the violin/viola or 2nd finger on the cello and bass (ask your teacher if you are unsure about this).
This is approximately grade 1 level and we have parts that will stretch the players up to grade 2. Again there are no auditions and we have encouraging and supportive tutors.
