Bristol Beacon shortlisted for two awards championing inclusion in the live events industry

Bristol Beacon has been shortlisted for two awards recognising its work to make the live events industry more diverse, equitable and accessible, and create new opportunities for people traditionally underrepresented across the sector.

We’re so excited to have been shortlisted for the Diversity and Inclusion Award at Access All Areas and the LIVE Workforce Award at the LIVE Awards.

At the heart of this work is Festival & Carnival Lab, a professional development programme tackling the underrepresentation of Black professionals in the live events industry. Through industry-led training, mentoring and networking, participants develop practical skills, build industry connections and take their first steps towards careers in festival and event production.

I am incredibly proud of this work and the impact it is already having. By listening, understanding and removing barriers, we are helping create meaningful opportunities and lasting change across our industry.

Andrea Mahoney, Creative Skills Manager

Working with industry partners, participants also gain valuable experience and access to paid opportunities, with graduates progressing into roles spanning event control, advancing and event coordination.

But building a more representative workforce takes more than opening the door. Alongside Festival & Carnival Lab, we’re developing new pathways into the industry through paid placements, work experience, community outreach and more inclusive recruitment practices. Working with community partners and providing financial support helps ensure that access to opportunities isn’t determined by someone’s background or circumstances.

Festival & Carnival Lab has exposed me to loads of roles which require skill sets that I wasn’t aware of [and] opportunities that I might be a good fit for. Also a [professional] network, potential jobs, employers, and gigs to work for. [It’s] given me hope that my work life can look different to the one that I’ve got. It feels like I’ve been introduced into a space in my life where I can thrive.

Romaine Smith, 2025 cohort

Being shortlisted for both awards is welcome recognition of the incredible people, partnerships and programmes driving this work forward. We’re proud to be playing our part in building a live events industry where more people can see a future for themselves, develop their skills and build meaningful careers.
