We’re thrilled to share that Bristol Beacon has been recognised with not one, but two awards at this year’s Civic Trust Awards — a celebration of the very best in architecture and built environment across the UK.
Our once-in-a-generation transformation, completed in November 2023, has been recognised with a Civic Trust Award and the Selwyn Goldsmith Award for Universal Design. These accolades celebrate not only design excellence but also our commitment to creating fully accessible, sustainably renovated spaces where music can be shared by all.
From day one, our aim was to create a venue that honours our heritage while opening the doors to a more inclusive future. With the support of Bristol City Council and the expertise of partners including Levitt Bernstein, Alec French Architects and Willmott Dixon, we restored our iconic main hall and Victorian Lantern Hall, incorporating modern acoustic brickwork and new performance spaces like the Cellars.
We’re proud that the Civic Trust Awards judges described the result as a “masterful blend of heritage and innovation” and a “stunning example of how a historic building can meet modern needs.”
These awards are a huge recognition of the care and collaboration that went into reimagining Bristol Beacon as a space for everyone.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in bringing this vision to life — and to all of you who continue to fill our spaces with music, creativity and connection.
