Welcome to Have You Heard? – an interview series highlighting the people behind Bristol Beacon.

Each month we speak to colleagues, artists, fans and friends and ask them to share their thoughts on our transformed venue, as well as the music that matters to them.

Introducing…Connie Badley

This week, Bristol Beacon Community Engagement Officer, promoter, and live music aficionado, Connie Badley shares her memories of our venue.

A born and raised Bristolian, Connie has performed at Beacon as a young child in the Stages competition while her favourite moment was seeing Father John Misty at the main Hall in 2016.

She shares Tapir!’s debut EP ‘Act 1 (The Pilgrim)’, as well as her thoughts on what makes a stand-out live show.

What have you been working on?

I’ve worked with Bristol Beacon’s Community team for two years now and have never felt so at home in a job and in a community of music lovers – I get to help people of all ages and backgrounds find a place for music in their lives every day which is incredibly rewarding!

Outside of work, I’m a prolific gig and festival goer, and working at Beacon has helped me get back in touch with my musician self.

What does a stand-out live performance look like to you?

To me, it’s as simple as music I love in a buzzing space that the audience feel ownership over, and the wackier the show the better!

Working in the Community team, I’ve learnt that everyone’s ideal music experiences are different, and the more a venue works to accommodate different needs, the more special a show will feel.

What are you listening to right now?

Tapir!’s Act 1 (The Pilgrim) is my favourite new release from the last year. They have a very whimsical, folky sound paired with a drum machine, and the vocalist’s voice and band’s songwriting is equally gorgeous.

When I saw them live, they were joined on stage by a child dancing with a cereal box on their head. Wholesome vibes all round! They’ve just signed to Heavenly Records so am eagerly awaiting their first album.
