Bringing our Foyer to life with a new mural from RTiiiKA

If you’ve visited us recently, you may have noticed there’s something different about our Foyer space. Thanks to Rosa Ter Kuile (RTiiiKA), it’s now filled with vibrant illustrations exemplifying the joy and unity of making and enjoying music together – helping create a warm and inviting welcome to our transformed venue ahead of reopening on 30 Nov 2023.

Over the course of nine days, Rosa – with help from friends Fyona Finn and Roanna – embarked on their largest scale project to date, with the mural officially being unveiled on Fri 24 Feb. A symbol of the creativity and community that comes with enjoying music together, the mural features depictions of people dancing, playing music and a motif of ‘the hand’ – representing the skill of musicians as well as the unity of listening and creating together.

See below to learn more about RTiiiKA’s work, watch a timelapse of the mural’s creation and view a gallery of our newly transformed Foyer.

I’m excited that this is the first thing to see in the Foyer space – the building is starting to shift.”

Rosa ter Kuile is an artist whose work spans graphic art, illustration, mural making and street art, with many of her projects revolving around themes of disregarding archaic notions of the gender binary in favour of the joy of expression and movement.

We’ve had the honour of working alongside her on a number of different visual projects over the last two years – most notably she is one of the designers of our refreshed visual identity, which accompanied our name change in 2021.

Rosa also created Brislington’s first street art alley, founded Bristol Mural Collective, an all-skill level women-led group that hosts monthly paint jams for anyone to join and even works alongside Rising Arts Agency to make the arts more accessible to young people.

Timelapse

Transforming our Foyer was no easy feat, with Rosa, Fyona and Roanna working together over a period of nine days before unveiling the finished mural on Fri 24 Feb.

Since we’re so proud of our vibrant new Foyer, we’ve put together a timelapse of the mural’s construction for you to enjoy. Head to our Instagram to hear more from Rosa on the process of making the mural, what it means to her, and how it’s depictions of unity through live music tie into Our Transformation.
