Classical Music at Colston Hall

Colston Hall is the South West’s largest concert hall and the only place in Bristol that can accommodate a full symphony orchestra. The annual Bristol International Classical Season brings extraordinary performances of outstanding musical quality to Bristol given by internationally renowned orchestras, including the Orchestra at Colston Hall, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, as well as outstanding star soloists.

Never experienced a classical concert before, and wondering what the fuss is all about? We asked some top musicians why seeing live classical music is so special. In this video, you can find out how it might just change your life:

You can delve deeper inside the music outside of the hall with our interactive programme notes and videos, allowing you to discover more about the inspirations and motivations behind each concert programme. You can access these on this page, or sign up to our enews to have them sent straight to your email inbox before each concert. If this whets your appetite for learning more, don’t miss our pre-concert talks and complementary chamber concerts with insights from Stephen Johnson to enhance your experience even further.

We also present a very popular series of bite-sized lunchtime concerts in association with the Royal Academy of Music and the Young Classical Artists Trust, featuring exceptional young musicians and rising stars. Be among the first to see these maestros in the making.

If cutting-edge contemporary composition is your thing, then Colston Hall is the best place in Bristol to appreciate it. In recent years we’ve hosted artists like Nils Frahm, Philip Glass and Ludovico Einaudi, as well as presenting Bristol New Music weekend, featuring artists like Ensemble MusicFabrik, Kronos Quartet and Max Richter.
