It is with great regret that we have to announce Ashley Kingman, the guitarist with Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys has suffered a heart attack. Ashley is in a stable condition but has had to undergo emergency surgery. Subsequently, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys July 2018 European tour has been cancelled. All tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.
A personal announcement will follow from the band shortly. Our thoughts are with Ashley, his family and band mates – we wish him a speedy recovery.
Since forming 25 years ago, Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite Boys have become the kings of swinging, good-time American roots music. Fronted by the inimitable Big Sandy, “who sings like an angel taking a break from being a devil” (Louder Than War), the band has released fourteen albums of undiluted, feel-good music. However, it is during their live performances that the boys really let rip, drawing deep on the honky-tonk, swing, rockabilly and doo-wop of “rock ’n’ roll’s golden age” (Paste).
We'd love to hear your memories of the performance. Add your photos, reviews and memories via Twitter using the hashtags: #bristolbeacon and #show240664 and they will appear on this page
