Bristol Re:sound

A day of free creative workshops, installations and performances

Bristol’s symbiotic relationship with sound continues to evolve with the ever-changing and diverse makeup of the city’s inhabitants and the emergence of new creative technologies. Bristol Re:sound is a sonic exploration of that relationship.

In the afternoon, take part in analogue tape composition workshops, modular synthesis workshops and composed sound walks around the city. Across three levels of Colston Hall’s Foyer, encounter sound installations which reimagine the sounds of Bristol, its musical identity and subculture through immersive soundscapes.

From 7pm the Foyer sees a sharing of short performances incorporating a variety of innovative techniques and technologies, including live sampling, VR, AV and a Turntablism Ensemble.

The evening closes in fitting style with a host of DJs on the Terrace Bar overlooking the city.

This event is the culmination of a collaboration between BIMM Institute Bristol and Bristol Music Trust and National Lottery Heritage Fund, in which students on the BA (Hons) Music Production course have been responding to themes of the social history of Bristol through music, and the evolution of sound technology and electronic music. This event showcases the most outstanding pieces of work created.

All workshops, installations and performances are free and non-ticketed.
