Saxophonists Alan Barnes and Israel-born Gilad Atzmon are two of Britain’s most celebrated virtuoso reed players. Despite their different backgrounds and approaches this duo shares a passion for performance, a playful sense of competition and the belief that a jazz audience is there to be entertained, not educated.
Through development of their new collaboration, The Lowest Common Denominator, they have devised daring new arrangements from the best of the American songbook, digging deep into their bop and post-bop bags to come up with something truly original. Joined by pianist Frank Harrison, drummer Enzo Zirilli and double bassist Yaron Stavi, this promises to be a show of warmth, wit and wonderful music by a hand-picked ensemble of stars.
