Nu Civilisation and Young musicians from Cotham School, City Academy and Bristol Cathedral School
Award-winning pianist and composer, Peter Edwards will lead the sensational Nu Civilisation Orchestra as artistic director in an evening filled with exhilarating classic big band sounds and a new special commission: A Journey with the Giants of Jazz.
2017 marks the centenary year of the birth of Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria, Thelonious Monk, Tadd Dameron and Buddy Rich. In celebration of these pioneering musical icons, Nu Civilisation Orchestra present a spectacular event, featuring some of the finest jazz musicians of the moment. Colston Hall has hosted many of these jazz greats in their prime, and celebrates its own 150th anniversary this year.
This unique event combines archive film portraits, with live performance from our world class musicians including Gary Crosby (of Jazz Jamaica) on double bass.
Joining the incredible line-up of these world-class musicians on stage are talented young musicians from Bristol schools. Performing as part of The Jazz Ticket nationwide music programme, they add energy to new arrangements of works by these great legends. Though the Giants of Jazz are gone, their enduring music continues its legacy through performances of the music stars of the future.
The Jazz Ticket is suitable for jazz fans of all ages (recommended 8+). Bring your family and friends, and get set for the musical ride and journey with the Giants of Jazz!
