World Premiere of Walking The Chains
Script & lyrics: ACH Smith. Music: Elizabeth Purnell. Director: Robin Belfield
Roll up for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the long and lively history of Bristol’s best loved landmark with the dazzling new show Walking the Chains, commemorating its 150th anniversary.
Performed in another Brunel masterpiece The Passenger Shed, watch the history of the bridge come alive on a spectacular set as a dynamic ensemble of actor musicians, circus performers, live band and choir reveal secrets of the iconic and world famous Clifton Suspension Bridge.
You will meet a young Brunel with his audacious plans to hang a bridge across the gorge; the men who literally walked the chains at dizzying heights to maintain the bridge and hear the moving tale of the young girl whose life was saved by her billowing skirts. All told through stunning aerial artistry, stories, physical theatre and beautiful music and songs, this spectacular production will make you see the Suspension Bridge in a whole new light.
Walking the Chains is written by ACH Smith, of the acclaimed Up the Feeder Down the ‘Mouth (“Remarkable…. rollicking… spectacular… theatre that matters.” The Guardian) and is produced, directed and designed by the team behind the highly praised Trade It? (“An exhilarating odyssey” The Guardian ****).
