Bristol Beacon has been a part of my life for decades – its music, its people, its spirit. By leaving a legacy, I’m helping to keep that spirit alive for others to discover. It’s my way of saying thank you and investing in a future where music continues to bring joy, healing, and hope.”

The different types of legacy gift
There are a few ways to leave a gift in your will:
- Pecuniary gift – this is a fixed sum of money.
- Residuary gift – this is a share or percentage of what’s left of your estate after other gifts are made.
- Specific gift – this can be assets or property, such as an instrument or stocks and shares.
If your estate is liable for inheritance tax, your legacy will reduce the overall amount of tax due on your estate. We recommend that all legacy gifts to Bristol Beacon are unrestricted.
And, if you’ve already made a Will but would still like to leave us a legacy gift, you can create a codicil for this purpose.

7 easy steps to writing your will
Leaving a will is for anyone who has wishes. It is simple and straightforward, can take just half an hour, and you can update it whenever you choose.
- Work out the value of your estate. Include everything from property and savings to investments and any outstanding debts.
- Choose your beneficiaries. These are the people or charities you’d like to include in your will. Many supporters choose to leave a share of their estate to us – this type of gift is called a residuary gift, and it won’t lose value over time.
- Appoint your executors. Executors are the individuals responsible for making sure your wishes are carried out. They’ll be named in your will.
- Use a solicitor or professional will writing service. You can make or update your will for free through our partners at Farewill. Alternatively, you can find solicitors in your area who specialise in wills, probate, and tax law via the Law Society website.
- Keep your will somewhere safe. Your solicitor or will writing service may store it for you, but it’s a good idea to keep a copy for yourself too.
- Tell a relative or close friend where the original copy is stored. This helps ensure your wishes are followed without delay.
- Let us know if you’ve included a gift to Bristol Beacon. We’d love to thank you personally for your support—but that’s entirely your decision. You’re under no obligation to tell us.
