We recognise the severe levels of loneliness and isolation felt amongst many older people in our communities and we know through research that the creative arts can help meet major challenges facing health and social care: ageing, long term conditions, loneliness and mental health.
We are committed to supporting older people across Bristol to access creative activity and present live concerts and workshops in sheltered accommodation; host social gatherings and creative workshops at the hall; and offer adults with dementia and their carers, opportunities to come together regularly for singing, socials and creative activity.
People living with Dementia and their Carers making music in the moment
Working in partnership with Dementia Navigators from the Dementia Wellbeing Service, Here Together brings creative activity and live music to people living with dementia, along with their carers and families. Supported by music leaders, individuals experience, play and make music together, providing joyful and connective times for people to be together in the present.
Here Together is in early stages, and we are running some pilot sessions at the moment in south Bristol. To refer someone living with Dementia in south Bristol or for more information contact: [email protected]
For adults living in Sheltered Accommodation
Musical Homes brings music and arts to communities of residents in sheltered accommodation in Bristol. Working in partnership with Bristol City Council Housing and Landlords Services, this project brings music and arts right to the heart of people’s homes. Whether it be sing-a-longs, creative writing, movement or a jam session – Musical Homes aims to create connections through shared live experiences.
After Covid, Musical Homes is beginning again and is early phases of development. For more information please contact: [email protected]
On Wednesday 23 September 2020 Colston Hall changed its name to Bristol Beacon.
Our new name is just the first step, it is about more than the sign above our door. Click below to find out more about how we’re changing, watch our name announcement, and discover how we want everyone to share in the joy of live music.
