With her compositions, Arooj Aftab weaves richly textured, emotive and ethereal sonic tapestries.
The Brooklyn-based, Pakistan-born artist holds a potent magnetism with her graceful, crystalline vocals as they soar amongst intricate instrumentation that “draws from Jazz, Hindustani classical, and folk” (Pitchfork).
Nominated for Best New Artist at the 2022 Grammys, the latest release from Aftab, ‘Vulture Prince’, offers a poignant meditation on loss. At once elegant, pensive and resplendent, ‘Vulture Prince’ takes her sound from previous records to even more transcendent heights and Aftab’s “rapid artistic growth only suggests even greater achievements await down the line” (Bandcamp).
