Dream of Gerontius - Nailsea Choral Society

Clifton Cathedral

Book Tickets

£22.00 incl. booking fee

A painting of a golden beam of light breaking through the clouds.

Join Nailsea Choral Society for a gala centenary celebration, with a landmark performance of Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, marking 125 years since its premiere.

This one-off anniversary performance brings together an outstanding cast of internationally acclaimed soloists: Mark Le Brocq as the impassioned Gerontius, Rebecca Afonwy Jones a luminous Angel, and Edmund Danon as both the commanding Priest and the solemn Angel of the Agony.

Radiant, dramatic, and profoundly tender, it traces the final moments of a dying man and his soul’s journey into the afterlife, set to some of Elgar’s most inspired and heartfelt music, moving  from the hushed intensity of Gerontius’s prayers to the soaring grandeur of the Angel’s Farewell, with sweeping choral climaxes, glowing orchestral textures and searing drama.

A rare opportunity to hear Elgar’s choral masterpiece in all its power and beauty in the dramatic surroundings of Clifton Cathedral.
