The DfE would like to see 1 hour of timetabled music delivered every week. We recognise the timetabling challenges this poses and so are offering this training to ensure 20 minutes of that ‘ask’ can be delivered in high-quality singing assemblies.

Every school in the world should have a weekly singing assembly. We know that singing together increases the sense of community in your school. It also improves the physical and mental wellbeing of your pupils. Singing fosters a strong sense of positivity, helps develop confidence, and gives children the opportunity to explore their world through songs. Singing together requires coordination and synchrony – these are behaviours shown to develop interpersonal skills and to motivate positive social behaviour.

What you will gain from the session:

  • A clear understanding of the seven interrelated dimensions of music (musical elements)
  • A guide to how to frame singing assemblies around them – so that musical language is used and understood across the school
  • A huge bundle of warm-up songs, focusing exercises, and starters to foster a positive assembly atmosphere
  • A clear guide on how you can structure your singing assemblies – including how to choose music to listen to as well as sing
  • Support in making your assemblies inclusive to all your pupils
