The Inclusive Practitioner Certificate for Music Educators

A training programme that empowers, includes and breaks down barriers

The Inclusive Practitioner CME was a comprehensive training programme that ran from 2019 – 2025.

The Level 4 qualification accredited by Trinity College, London was led by experts in the field and offered musicians the opportunity to develop their skills working with disabled young people and those who experience barriers when access music education.

Building on the success of this programme, we have designed a new programme launching in 2026.

About the Course

From 2019 – 2025 the course was led by experts in the field of musically inclusive practice and was built around an ethos of reflective practice and person-centered learning.

The CME programme consisted of a year of face-to-face and online training, and delivery support sessions. The training programme included coursework submissions and 1-2-1 assessment feedback provided by a team of experienced assessors.

What participants gained

Accredited qualification – a recognised Foundation Degree level qualification, accredited by Trinity College London

Unique learning – Inclusive Practitioner was the only CME course of its kind available in the UK

Flexible assessment – 1-2-1 support from a learning assessor, that helped participants engage with the modules and coursework submissions in a format that suits their needs. 

Learn from experts – led by highly trained facilitators, who are experts their field as well as gaining valuable insight from fellow participants from across the sector.    

Share knowledge – tools and confidence to enable individuals to make change in thier organisation

Join a community – Access to a committed international alumni community of individuals and organisations working to improve quality of inclusive music making.  

Make an impact – skills allowing participants to facilitate inclusive, life-changing music making experiences in communities and positively impact young lives.

Course Outline

Previous CME courses consisted of an induction and seven training days, which were designed to meet the requirements of the qualification as well as preparing practitioners to work to a high standard.   

Content includes: 

  • Exploring music education from a young person’s perspective 
  • Understanding how young people develop musically  
  • Identifying and overcoming barriers to musical learning  
  • Planning, facilitating, and evaluating musical learning   
  • Reflecting on your own work and professional development  
  • Awareness of best practice including safeguarding and disability equality
