Two children play ukuleles sat in red chairs

The new National Plan for Music Education (DfE June ’22) asks us all to start from the premise that all children are musicians – and we are asked to embrace music in our provision, sparking children’s musical curiosity and developing their ability and interest. Continuous Provision, or play-based learning, is commonly observed in Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) – but more than ever we are seeing this extending from Reception and into Year 1 (and in some settings even further up the school).

This practical and hugely fun session will give you the experiences, resources, and a wealth of practical ideas to bring musical learning into your play-based learning. We will explore creating continuous provision around new and existing music units, with detailed guidance on how to promote and sustain musical learning in your outdoor environment, small group learning time, and to help you to grow independent, active learners.

What you will gain from the session:

  • A wealth of ideas to build music into your continuous provision for both Reception and Year 1
  • Direct links from discreet teaching into continuous provision
  • Resource packs that you can use in your continuous provision area
  • A guide to which instruments, laminates, manipulables are ideal for your continuous provision (whether indoors or outdoors)
  • An understanding of the methodology for song and music selection for this age-group
