This training is designed for all music leads – new and experienced. It is also suitable for SLT– especially if music and the arts are a feature of your SIP.
The content of this training will enable you to lead music even more effectively at your school. This will include – effective curriculum delivery and monitoring, embedding music and musical language throughout the school, effective use of assessment – and how to keep this minimal, useful and impactful. We’ll also cover how we work as your music hub – and how we can support with individual, small group, and whole-class instrument tuition. Leading music in a primary school can feel like you’re working solo – but this session is to help us feel part of a bigger team and to champion music education together – right across the city!
What you will gain from the session:
- An opportunity to discuss what curricular and co-curricular music is currently happening in your school and to help bring to life what you’d like to see happen next
- Starting, sustaining and growing provision of musical instrument lessons in your school (this includes 1-2-1, small group, and whole-class)
- A look at the brand-new Oak National Academy music curriculum that has been created by Bristol Beacon in partnership with Cathedral Schools Trust. We will look at how the clear progression structure works and how teachers can adopt and adapt this program to suit their setting. This is super exciting as we have collaborated with key partners such as beatboxer Jason Singh, the Paraorchestra, Royal Ballet & Opera, sitarist and composer Jasdeep Singh Degun, and Professor Nate Holder – to create a fully-resourced music curriculum designed for non-specialist teachers
- Network with like-minded music subject leads across Bristol
- A clear understanding of how Bristol Beacon – your Music Education Hub (appointed by Arts Council and DfE) – is placed to support you and your pupils throughout the year
- Ideas to align your singing assemblies with the musical learning in the rest of your curriculum
- Specialist input from Dalcroze UK – with training on how the body can be used for music perception, performance and how this enhances early musicianship
