Are you a new music lead? Has your school recently appointed a new music lead? Are you looking for support with leading music even more effectively at your school? We know that being a music lead in a school can feel like you’re working solo – but this session is to help us feel part of a bigger team and to champion music education together – right across the city!
What you will gain from the session:
- Starting, sustaining and growing provision of musical instrument lessons in your school (this includes 1-2-1, small group, and whole-class)
- What WCET should I choose and why – an intro and guide to all the instruments on offer (including a chance to play them!)
- A guide to ‘getting the instruments out’ and classroom management ideas for using instruments within your curriculum music lessons
- Support to get your Music Development Plan summary ready for your school’s website if you’ve not yet done it (as requested by DfE in May this year)
- Network with like-minded music subject leads across Bristol
- A clear understanding of how Bristol Beacon – your Music Education Hub (appointed by Arts Council and DfE) – is placed to support you and your pupils throughout the year
- Ideas to align your singing assemblies with the musical learning in the rest of your curriculum
- An update on the Oak National Academy Music Curriculum (which is being written by a team of three of us from Bristol Beacon and Cathedral Schools Trust)
- How to use Musical Moments cards effectively
