A scene of a diverse group audience, some sat and some standing, clapping and enjoying a performance

Noman’s Land is a powerful, multi-media theatre piece that explores war, losing your home and survival.

Mixing moving drama, new music, striking costumes and visual projections of original artwork, the play intertwines the lives of refugees, the homeless, and those who try to help them.

Developed in collaboration with Bristol Sanctuary Theatre, Bristol Beacon, City of Bristol College, UWE, Cotham Parish Church and Bristol Refugee Festival, Noman’s Land unites refugee and migrant students with their peers from UWE, refugee musicians and visual artists, alongside professional artists.

Premiering as part of Bristol Refugee Festival 2025, don’t miss this unforgettable story that fuses magical realism, historical drama, and social commentary.

Inspired by real experiences, and written by Fahrudin Salihbegovic, a UWE lecturer with a refugee background himself, Noman’s Land is a deeply personal story and a universal exploration of exile.

About Bristol Refugee Festival

Bristol Refugee Festival supports newly arrived and settled communities to come together in celebration of inclusion and diversity, and overcome misconceptions as to why people seek sanctuary and strengthen communities. The festival now coordinates a collaborative year-round programme of arts, cultural and educational events, bringing together communities from across Bristol and beyond to connect, share and celebrate.

About Bristol Sanctuary Theatre

The Bristol Sanctuary Theatre is a theatre group dedicated to supporting young refugees in their artistic expression and integration into a new society, through creation of original and high-quality theatre works. The company is affiliated with UWE, local schools, arts organisations, and refugee charities. The group offers a space for creativity, community, and personal growth, providing refugees with access to artistic opportunities, skill development, and a platform for sharing their compelling stories to the audiences in Bristol area.

Our work seeks to address the widespread stigmatisation, marginalisation and vulnerability of young refugees by empowering them and encouraging solidarity and social cohesion. Through the creation of high-quality art and theatre, we strive to amplify the voices of refugees, highlighting their value and celebrating their contributions to the Bristol community.
