Oak National Academy Primary Music Curriculum Launch Event

Lantern Hall

This CPD morning will guide you through the pedagogy behind the new Oak National Academy Primary Music curriculum and how to implement it in your setting.  There will be plenty of hands-on sessions for singing, vocal leading, behaviour and instruments use, lesson structure as well as composition and improvisation – to give a deeper understanding of progression across each year group. We’ll also identify which readily available instruments are most suited to successfully deliver the curriculum in your school.

What is the Oak National Academy Primary Music Curriculum?

After 18 extraordinary months, we are delighted to share that our brand-new Oak National Academy Primary Music curriculum, lesson plans and teaching videos, created in partnership by Bristol Beacon and Cathedral Schools Trust, are now live and freely available. The primary music resources are all designed to better support teachers with the planning, in-class teaching and also developing of their own curriculum. Lesson materials are free to access, and comprise lesson slides, a modelled video of each lesson being taught, accompanied with audio and visual examples for teachers, alongside a selection of worksheets, quizzes and further resources.

To create the total of 216 lesson content and resources, we partnered with national cultural organisations and acclaimed artists within the sector, drawing on their expertises and resources to produce a range of diverse and engaging content. Creative partners include Paraorchestra, National Children’s Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Jasdeep Singh Degun, Jason Singh, Nate Holder and more.

As the Oak National Academy curriculum is now used in over 18,000 schools across the country, our hope is that all Bristol primary schools will consider adopting the Oak music curriculum for their setting.
