Race Cards: A Blueprint 4 Change is a new exhibition that collates Bristol people’s reflections and ideas around race, representation and resilience, with a vision to forge them into a manifesto to achieve racial equality for the city.

Empowered by the activism of the Bristol Bus Boycott and the inspirational vision of Martin Luther King’s Dream, Curiosity UnLtd launched #Race4Power in January 2023, at the people’s plinth. Touring Bristol with a giant card of Martin Luther King, this grassroots research project sought people’s answers to three questions on the themes of race, representation, and resilience.

‘Race Cards: A Blueprint for Change’ displays the 500+ responses received. This thought-provoking exhibition, curated by Julz Davis, is designed to spark a set of challenging but constructive city-wide conversations, ultimately to inform the co-creation of a new grassroots-led manifesto on racial equality for the city.

Soundtracking this call-to-action is an anthem for change – ‘We Rise’, the video of which can be viewed at this exhibition. This powerful track was created by young Bristol artists inspired by the 60th anniversary and legacy of the Bristol Bus Boycott. The track, co-commissioned by Bristol Beacon and Curiosity UnLtd and delivered by Aspiration Creation Elevation, is a message of resilience and hope for a future built on the principles of these civil rights pioneers.

Part of Windrush To Bristol – a programme exploring the cultural impact and continuing legacy of the Windrush generation in Bristol – past, present and future.
