A group of children sing together

This incredible opportunity will give you everything you need (resources, building blocks, confidence) for your pupils to explore and perform a piece of opera! By applying the Create & Sing approach (prepare – explore – learn – create – share) you’ll be set to showcase key-stage appropriate pieces from The Magic Flute.

There are 5 x lessons for KS1, for lower KS2 and for upper KS2.

Create & Sing combines singing and drama to build pupils’ self-expression, creative collaboration, performance confidence, voice, movement, and memory skills.

This exciting training session, held in our brand-new Lantern Hall, has been developed to give teachers the confidence to implement creative techniques in their classroom. No familiarity with opera is needed! Royal Opera House (ROH) artists will lead this practical, certified CPD training, which is part of the award-winning ROH National Schools Programme. Bringing creativity and confidence into your classroom, this session comes very highly recommended.

Complementing this CPD session is a free, interactive digital workshop in your classroom where your pupils can ‘Meet the Artists’ and ask questions to ROH opera singers (Thu Feb 8 2024) as well as a session to celebrate and share your learning with schools across the country online (Thu Mar 28 2024).

What you will gain from the session:

  • A term’s worth of music and drama provision for KS1, lower and upper KS2
  • The building blocks, skills, and confidence (through the practical ‘doing’ CPD session) to deliver this in your school
  • Opportunity for sharing, celebration and performance in your school
  • Opportunity for digital ‘Meet the Artist’ session and digital sharing with schools right across England
  • An award winning resource and programme which will sustain the arts in your school – with a great deal of fun!

Presented by Bristol Beacon and Royal Opera House
