Eight people standing around a person with large curly hair in a sandy, unfinished, open building structure. They're wearing in classic Saharian dress.

Draped in flowing robes and Tuareg turbans, Tinariwen channel the soul of the Sahara through their hypnotic, guitar-driven sound.

Pioneers of what became known as desert blues – or assuf, meaning “longing” in Tamasheq – the collective transformed songs of exile and resistance into a global phenomenon. Once rebel fighters who traded rifles for guitars, Tinariwen’s music carries the pulse of freedom and the poetry of desert life, weaving raw electric riffs with ancient rhythms and haunting harmonies.

For over two decades, their transcendent live shows have captivated audiences worldwide, offering both a political statement and a deeply spiritual experience.
