Ethical Statement

Updated: March 2026

At Bristol Beacon, we are committed to reviewing and developing our public ethical statement and internal guidelines over time. In devising this overarching statement, we have consulted with our peers in the charitable music arts sector to understand similar processes and we will continue to listen, share and reflect as charitable arts organisations continue to respond and adapt to a growing range of broad ethical issues.

Our public performances and learning programme aim to reflect the diversity of our community as well as the ever-changing world that we live in, ensuring that Bristol Beacon is a place of learning, discovery, entertainment, variety, debate and inspiration.

Our relationship with any artist or organisation does not mean that we support their personal or political views, but we do support their general right to express them. We prohibit events promoting hate speech, discrimination, violence, or any other activity which would harm Bristol Beacon’s ability to achieve its charitable aims. We reserve the right to cancel any events which we have reason to believe will be in breach of this, even after the point of confirmation. We expect everybody, whether working here or visiting, to abide by these expectations.

As well as our public performances and learning programme, we regularly host conferences, various private events and meetings (known as the commercial programme) – the income from which directly supports our core charitable activities and operating costs.
