Five people standing outside in suits and patterned shirts. One is holding drum sticks, one is holding a saxophone.

Modus Operandi is the incendiary new album from London based five-piece instrumental jazz band Five-Way Split.

This sensational ensemble’s vision is to carry the torch for classic hard-bob groups of the 1950’s and 60’s like Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and also the US contemporary-bop scene, through their vibrant original compositions and distinctive interpretations of hip / swinging material.

Five-Way Split is a jointly led band which was formed in 2020 and features some of the finest contemporary jazz bebop musicians in the UK. Five-Way Split is fronted by internationally renowned trumpet star Quentin Collins, Greek saxophone phenomenon Vasilis Xenopoulos and the golden touch of pianist Rob Barron. Added to this is virtuosic double bassist Matyas Hofecker and hard-swinging drummer Matt Home.

It’s immediately clear upon first listening of Modus Operandi, that this is a band who have clearly covered the hard yards in the rehearsal studio.

Their music will appeal to all fans of melodic, hard-swinging straight ahead Jazz.
