About the project: The Sonic Body
The Sonic Body is a 45-minute installation and site specific performance work that brings together wearable technology, co-design, original music and dance.
Neon Dance are collaborating with award winning artist Dr Ana Rajcevic (Research Scientist & Artist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston) and composer Sebastian Reynolds to create wearable and playable sound sculptures with a modular design. The pieces, which will range from 4-6 metres in length, will act as art-installation interactive objects, musical instruments (strings that can be played like a “harp”) and performance sculptures; standing alone in an environment that people (anyone) can ‘enter’ and play. The pieces create a “bio-behavioural complex,” a rich set of feedback effects between the body, its behaviours, and surrounding environments and sounds.
In 2025 we will create initial prototypes and test them with a series of co-creation workshops (Bristol Beacon and Horniman Museum) and an interactive ‘lab’ (Festival of Tomorrow, Swindon). Our aim is to create a new work that will premiere in 2026 and engage an audience of children, young people and adults.
