A composite image of two people stood in front of an empty road at night. One has long blonde hair and wears a navy blue coat, the other has long dark hair and wears a grey long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans.

Based in Oslo and Copenhagen, Smerz is the Norwegian duo of Henriette Motzfeldt and Catharina Stoltenberg, set to release their sophomore album ‘Big City Life’ on May 23 2026 through Danish label Escho.

Smerz operate at the intersection of genres – drawing from the compositional techniques of classical music, the experimentation of electronic music and the immediacy of pop to capture a collage of moments of everyday life and dreams from apathy, loneliness, love and friendship – all through the lens of girly existentialism.

Following a string of celebrated EPs, the duo released their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Believer’ on XL Recordings, having since navigated a variety of notable performances from a choir performance at the MUNCH Museum, Berghain, the Tate Modern, and even as an immersive soundtrack to the runway at fashion shows around the world.
