Five people stand on a road with trees in the background. Sunlight is shining through the trees.

Melbourne’s Surprise Chef creates immersive, mood-driven music, blending 70s film scores, jazz-funk, and hip-hop influences.

Their signature sound—punchy drums, infectious keys, deep grooves, and hypnotic melodies—pushes instrumental soul into new territory.

Since their 2017 debut, they’ve cultivated a dedicated global following with ‘All News Is Good News and Daylight Savings’, records that took their homegrown sound far beyond Australia. Now signed to Big Crown Records, they continue to refine their distinct style, channeling their love for classic influences into something fresh and unmistakably their own.
