At the centre of We Care Week – a week long celebration of care experienced young people and foster carers in Bristol – we are proud to present a special exhibition of art and music.

Working in partnership with Bristol City Council, join us to hear the powerful words and experiences of some of our city’s most vulnerable, yet talented young people.

A celebration of art, photography, paintings and poetry created by young people, there will also be listening stations where visitors can hear musical creations and an album created by care leavers called ‘Different Beginnings’. Overcoming many challenges, Different Beginnings, is an extraordinary collection of new music and spoken word that explores life experiences and personal journeys.

Many pieces in the exhibition will be anonymised to protect the identities of the young people.

About Hope Creative

As HOPE Creative – Bristol Beacon’s  award-winning programme of creative activity for care experienced young people, approaches it’s 10 year anniversary, this week allows us to reflect on and celebrate the project we are so proud of as an organisation.

HOPE Creative started off delivering choir sessions to a small group of care experienced young people, once a month. It now delivers all kinds of music activity almost daily in multiple settings to babies, children in care, care leavers and through our wonderful foster carer choir, FoStars.

It has been amazing to witness the commitment of our wonderful freelance team, foster carers, creative learning team and of course the resilience, care, vulnerability, levels of trust and determination of the amazing young people we work with.

There have been magical moments of creativity and we have witnessed and supported many significant milestones in many of our young people’s lives.”

We Care Week artwork

The artwork for We Care Week has been designed for the events by Kay, a care experienced young person. They were given creative freedom to design artwork for the series of events celebrating and sharing the life experience and personal journeys of care experienced young people.

Hope Creative offers opportunities for young people to lead, co-curate and develop their own projects, based on their own creative interests.
