Art at the Beacon

The physicality of sound

We believe music and visual art are natural partners. Both artforms excite when genres are crossed, ideas bubble and conversations happen.

At Bristol Beacon you can experience and explore our permanent collection of artworks; from sound installations, to ceramics, to murals and sculptures. They explore the physicality of sound and can be enjoyed on an intense personal level and as a joyful communal experience.

Discover our collection, find out about the artists, and experience them yourself on your next visit. Who knows where art at the Beacon might take you?

Permanent collection at Beacon

Our commissioned artworks bring the art of music-making to life in visual form. They enhance our venue through two central ideas:

  • music-making is a shared, communal artform;
  • our building’s social and cultural ties to the trading and manufacturing past of the city.

Together, these artists reframe our building for a modern audience. The artworks reference our history in a contemporary way and allow us to move forward, empowered by our past.

This vision for the permanent collection was provided by Theresa Bergne Field Art Projects. The heritage and public engagement programme was developed and curated by Cathy Mager.

Creating the artwork

I’m excited that this is the first thing to see in the Foyer space – the building is starting to shift.”
