South Carolina-based singer, songwriter and guitarist Darius Rucker first rose to prominence in the mid-’90s as the charismatic frontman of celebrated roots-rock band Hootie & the Blowfish before kickstarting a successful solo career in 2001 spanning everything from R&B, pop, rock and country.
Since making his solo debut, Rucker has earned a whole new legion of fans with a multitude of No. 1 albums, singles and multi-Platinum certified hits, co-hosted the 54th annual CMA awards, received the Grammy award for Best Solo Country Performance, and became the first Black artist to reach number one on the Hot Country Songs chart since 1983 with the single ‘Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It’.
He is also a committed philanthropist, having co-chaired the capital campaign that helped build the new MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital in his hometown of Charleston, raised over $3 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through his annual Darius & Friends benefit concert and serves as a National Chair for the National Museum of African American Music.
