Orchestral Season 2024/25

Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra

with Riccardo Frizza & Jeneba Kanneh-Mason

This event has passed

The Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra make their first visit to Bristol Beacon with two of Hungary’s most revered composers leading the way in a dance themed programme.

We are delighted to welcome the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra for their first visit to the Beacon. There is something particularly special about hearing orchestras perform music from their homeland and tonight’s concert features pieces by two of Hungary’s best: Zoltán Kodály and Franz Liszt.

The concert opens with Kodály’s lively Dances of Galánta, based on Hungarian folk tunes. The orchestra is then joined by star pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason for Chopin’s achingly lyrical Piano Concerto No. 2.

Franz Liszt’s humorous Mephisto Waltz brings mischief to the evening’s proceedings after which Beethoven’s thrilling Symphony No. 7 continues the evening’s dance theme. The final exuberant movement of Beethoven’s 7th, with its incredible rhythmic energy, was once described by Wagner as the ‘apotheosis of the dance’. An evening not to be missed!
