National Open Youth Orchestra - Feel the Music

This event has passed

A group of young people pose together while holding their instruments

Join twenty-four brilliant young disabled and non-disabled musicians for an uplifting afternoon of music mixing acoustic, electronic and accessible instruments – including the Seaboard RISE and the Clarion which some musicians play with head movement.

Alongside bold versions of audience favourites such as ‘Nautilus’, ‘Autumn’ and musicians’ own choice of ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’, the orchestra will premiere music that speaks of themes close to their hearts.

‘Elements’ is an invitation to feel the devastating impact of climate change. ‘Wittgenstein’s Chorale’ carries the orchestra’s message of inclusion, paying homage to a virtuoso disabled pianist. ‘Soaring through Sparks’ will take you on a discovery of Clarion, the first-ever digital instrument to be assessed by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

About the performance

This is a relaxed performance welcoming of disabled and neurodivergent audiences, families, and anyone else who would benefit from a less formal environment.

There is a relaxed attitude to noise and audience members are free to leave and re-enter the concert hall at any point.

There will be a Chill Out area outside the concert hall, for anyone needing quiet time before or during the performance.

A range of seating options is available for this concert. You can book standard seats and wheelchair and personal assistant/companion spaces. There will also be a relaxed seating area with bean bags, where you can choose to move on the day if this is more comfortable for you.

This concert will be BSL interpreted, with the interpreter positioned on the right side of the stage.

There is a Changing Places toilet in the venue for those that require an accessible changing place. Stewards will be able to direct you to this.
