Holst’s brilliantly inventive Planets Suite is one of the cornerstones of British orchestral music, and one of the 20th century’s most popular pieces of music, recorded more than 80 times.

Sounding at times like a forerunner of some well-known space-themed soundtracks, it’s a dazzling musical depiction of the solar system in all of its majesty, power and mystery. Continuing the celestial theme is a Waltz from Josef Strauss and Jonathan Dove’s incredible showcase for the trombone, inspired by Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
