ONLINE Oak Music Curriculum Training: Discover: Session 2

Created by Bristol Beacon and Cathedral Schools Trust, the free Oak National Academy Primary Music Curriculum launched in 2025 to support inclusive and joyful music education for every primary pupil.

Now, the creators of the curriculum are offering online CPD courses to help teachers put it into practice. Designed with busy primary schools in mind, the sessions are practical and focus on real classroom experience.

The Bigger Picture: Understanding Oak’s Sequencing and Progression

This session explores how the Oak Primary Music Curriculum is designed as a coherent, cumulative learning journey and how musical knowledge and skills develop over time.

Through this session, you’ll explore:

• How the curriculum is sequenced across year groups and how this can be implemented flexibly within your own setting.

• How musical knowledge and skills are built progressively to create an ambitious and inclusive curriculum for all pupils.

• How key musical areas, including singing, playing, composing and rehearsing together, develop throughout the primary years.

• How the singing voice is developed safely through carefully selected, age-appropriate repertoire.

• The curriculum end points that support teachers in recognising and measuring pupils’ musical progress.

Teachers and leaders will leave with a clear understanding of how Oak’s curriculum design supports pupils to build, retain and apply musical knowledge and skills, giving them the confidence to implement the curriculum as a coherent, progressive learning journey.
