This headline performance of the festival promises to be a bold, genre-defying collaboration on an epic scale, where orchestral power meets the pulse of contemporary vocal and electronic music.

Bristol Youth Orchestra and Jazz Ambassadors join forces with a mega lineup of special guest collaborators from Bristol Youth Studios, Hope Creative and Bristol NOYO Ensemble, and will include the debut performance of newly formed pop vocal collective, Beacon Session Singers.

Alongside music by artists such as Grammy-nominated Cody Fry, the programme showcases the original music of some of Bristol’s most exciting young talent. Gracie Samara, a multi-genre rapper and songwriter, Austin Roberts, an electronic producer from Bristol Youth Studios, and Lei.zy, a raw and soulful singer-songwriter from Hope Creative, will each have their original music specially arranged for 3 world premieres.

Over 100 young people on stage. One concert. This electrifying evening might just bring the roof down.

Creative team

Bristol Youth Orchestra

Bristol Youth Orchestra is the city’s flagship instrumental ensemble featuring over 90 of the most talented young musicians in Bristol. The orchestra rehearses weekly at Bristol Cathedral Choir School and performs the great works of the orchestral repertoire, as well as ambitious new commissions, in some of the city’s finest venues including St George’s Bristol, Victoria Rooms, and Bristol Beacon. Bristol Youth Orchestra is a member of the Association of British Orchestras and strives to give young musicians a professional orchestral experience and support careers in music.

Bristol Beacon Jazz Ambassadors

Bristol Beacon Jazz Ambassadors is an exciting, experimental and cross-genre band for instrumentalists aged 14-18 years and Grade 5+. Playing a variety of styles, the group explores a range of genres including classic swing, funk, and hip hop. Covering the more straight-ahead jazz and vocal standards, Jazz Ambassadors develops tuition in improvisation and ensemble playing skills, where members are encouraged to enhance their musical individuality.

Beacon Session Singers

Beacon Session Singers are our brand-new pop vocal group for ages 14-18. This auditioned group showcases some of Bristol’s best young contemporary singers, and brings together a rousing blend of gospel, R&B and pop-soul. Live and Loud: Symphonic Sessions marks their debut performance.

Gracie Samara (Bristol Youth Studios)

Gracie Samara is 17-year-old multi genre rapper/songwriter born and raised in Bristol and a member of Bristol Youth Studios. She blends Hiphop and grime from a mix of old school and the modern, bringing a message and story from every song she writes to be an inspiration to the youth and the next generation beyond. Inspired by artists such as MF DOOM, Loyle Carner and Lauryn Hill among many others, she continues to build her journey and growth within music and herself. Known for her sharp lyricism, explosive energy bringing high energy on stage and reflective depth she is making waves in the Bristol Music Scene. She has performed at venues such as Malcolm X, Bristol Beacon, Bristol Harbour Festival and in collaborations with a live orchestra, and continues to thrive and excite the future of young people and musicians in the scene.

Austin Roberts (Bristol Youth Studios)

Austin is a member of Bristol Youth Studios and has been listening and playing a wide variety of music since he was 12, starting with drums, guitar, bass and ukuleleHis main influences then were The Beatles, Oasis, The Smiths and Pink Floyd. Austin then started recording music on a tablet after hearing some 80’s electronic music for the first time. After getting a computer and some electronic hardware he was able to expand his music making into IDM, techno, jungle, ambient and lots of other genres. His composition that is being adapted for the orchestra has industrial feel to it; another genre that he loves owing to its heavy, driving beat which can be added to with lots of experimental sounds and melodies. Austin is excited to hear the piece played by the Bristol Youth Orchestra and other ensembles and is honoured it was selected.

lei.zy (Hope Creative)

lei.zy has been involved with Hope Creative since 2016, starting off by coming to our Care Leaver Jam Nights. Right from the off, she was wowing people with her amazing song writing skills and soulful vocals. She made up her first song when she was just four yrs old! She taught herself how to sing, play guitar, produce and write songs whilst dabbling in a range of other instruments too (she was once a drummer in an all girl punk band!) A lot of lei.zy’s songs are based around her faith and beliefs, that have helped her navigate challenging periods mentally, with the hope that her message will help others that may feel the same that way she did. lei.zy is a multi-genre artist – she is not defined by one thing. As a neurodivergent young person, lei.zy has faced many challenges in her life, but she now feels at a place where she is comfortable with who she is, and music has supported her through that journey. She hopes her music can help people who have been through similar challenges to feel good in their own skins and find confidence in who they are.
